How to use the result correctly.

The calculation converts rotational motion into theoretical peripheral speed. It does not know the maximum permitted speed of the wheel, the machine rating, clamping system, wheel condition, balance, material, compound or required finish.

Example

A 300 mm wheel at 1,000 RPM has a theoretical peripheral speed of 15.71 m/s. That number is mathematically correct; whether it is safe or technically appropriate depends on the exact tool and machine documentation.

Before changing RPM

  • Check the tool manufacturer’s maximum permitted speed and mounting instructions.
  • Check machine, shaft, flanges, guards and vibration.
  • Review how speed changes heat, compound transfer, contact time and finish.
  • Validate the result on the actual part and record the approved window.
